mice pour drinksDiscomfort in the unfamiliar.

Country mouse Timmy Willie falls asleep in a hamper and wakes up in the city, where he meets Johnny Town-Mouse.

Johnny and his friends live quite a sophisticated, comfortable life, but poor Timmy is unable to enjoy it for his constant fear of a house cat which resides in Johnny's abode.

Timmy says goodbye to his new friend and returns to the country by hiding in the same hamper that brought him. Some time later, Johnny Town-Mouse comes to visit. Timmy Willie is eager to sell his friend on rural life, but Johnny's disappointed with the lack of hustle and bustle, not to mention scared of things like cows and lawn mowers. He returns home shortly thereafter.

Miss Potter tells us that "one place suits one person, another place suits another person." Her stating the moral outright is no surprise, given that the story is her interpretation of Aesop's The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse. (Ms. Potter, of course, was the author of more than 20 picture books, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit.)

These little gems are worth their weight in gold.  Adorable line drawings, not too cluttered, and just the right size for little hands.
Thank you so much!

I've always thought there could have been a better title, but there couldn't be a better book!
