Edward LearEdward Lear was a 19th century writer and artist. He was famous for his Nonsense books, as well as for popularizing the limerick. (Lear's limericks weren't lewd; they were meant for children! And unlike the more modern version of the form, Lear tended to match the words at the end of the 2nd and 5th lines, rather than rhyme them.) As an illustrator, he often created truly absurd images.
